Tumble - Parametric Voronoi Trays

Tumble - Parametric Voronoi Trays

Tumble was created as a parametric design system of decorative trays that can generate different form and distribution alternatives based on values defined by the user. This project was developed as my certification project for the Cademy.xyz Grasshopper Masterclass.
The length, width and height of the whole set of trays can be customized, as well as the amount of trays, an additional "seed" value can be adjusted to visualize different distribution and form alternatives for the set of trays. This system was developed within the Grasshopper environment of Rhino 3D with the intention of letting users customize the design to their specific needs in an intuitive way.
The shapes of each tray are defined by a randomized voronoi pattern, and the height of each of these trays is set based on the area of their base, in such a way that each of the containers maintains a similar volume. The goal is to generate a set of containers that are shaped differently enough to store the widest variety of objects.
The final output of the Tumble grasshopper system is a 3D file that can be directly used to manufacture the parts using 3d printing, or can be used to generate molds for manufacturing the parts using resin or ceramic production methods.
